Consolata Hospital

Back

Background

Consolata Sisters opened a small dispensary in 1930, and it grew into Consolata Hospital Kyeni in 1956. Recently, the sisters wanted to expand the hospital with a new wing. In order to get funding, it needed to show that it could meet improved quality standards.

How SafeCare helped

Together with SafeCare, the hospital embarked on a quality improvement journey, raising the quality from level 2 to level 4 in just 4 years.

Tangible results

The hospital now offers specialized services, increasing its resident medical doctors from 2 to 8. It has increased both patient visits (x3.3) and monthly revenue (x2.2). It has improved its relationship with the NHIF and secured contracts with 3 insurance companies.

Consolata Hospital Kyeni reports that SafeCare:

  • Inspires action for patient-centered quality care
  • Provides support with a consistent Monitoring & Evaluation framework
  • Improves patient experience and hospital service
  • Enables the hospital to be a role model for other facilities who want to learn from and work with them, for example by referring patients
  • Enables the hospital to access credit from financial institutions

Future focus

Consolata Hospital has the ambition to achieve a level 5 certification. To this end, it wants to develop a new maternity ward and expand its operating theater. It will also repair its diagnostic unit and introduce a digital health information management system.
