ourmethodology
SafeCare’s methodology provides an easy-to-follow, stepwise approach to healthcare quality improvement. Facilities can take ownership of their quality improvement journey and work at their own pace, and stakeholders can capture real-time data for many facilities at the same time. Along the way, the right support is available at the right time.

assessment and certification
Every SafeCare quality improvement journey begins with an assessment, based on our internationally accredited standards. Facilities either perform a self-assessment, or a certified SafeCare assessor visits the facility in person. This determines a facility’s current level of quality.
If an assessor performs the assessment, the facility receives a certificate from level 1 (very modest quality) to level 5 (high quality). The certification levels provide a transparent, positive, and encouraging system that recognizes each step in quality improvement and provides motivation to achieve the next level.
plan of action
The SafeCare assessment generates a tailored Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) based on the facility’s specific quality gaps. The QIP is holistic and addresses both clinical and non-clinical aspects of care. It breaks down the steps to quality improvement into easily digestible tasks. It is designed in the context of the specific challenges of resource-restricted facilities and offers locally relevant and practical solutions.
In addition to a focus on the clinical topics and service elements, the stepwise improvements provided will also help facilities improve their business. Improvements to financial & supply management, capacity building, required site upgrades, and equipment are included in the QIP.
SafeCare is the only quality certification program that is not pass/fail. By providing achievable steps towards incrementally better care, facilities feel empowered to embark on the journey and remain motivated to continue it over time.
stepwise improvement
Based on their starting score, facilities can work through the improvement steps at their own pace and receive support. On the Quality Platform, facilities can access their Quality Improvement Plan, trainings, and support materials like protocols, treatment guidelines, and infographics. They can track their progress in real time, connect with assessors, win value badges for various improvement and clearly see the tasks that need to be completed to achieve the next level of quality.
ongoing support
At every step of the quality improvement journey, SafeCare and our partners offer the support needed to help ensure progress and to keep the journey going.
This begins with the remote support available on our Quality Platform. Through the digital platform, facilities can connect with healthcare professionals, communicate with assessors, monitor progress, and access the SafeCare library of supporting documents and tools.
If extra help is needed, SafeCare’s license partners act as local and region-specific support for the facilities within their reach. Through in-person visits, expert consultancy, and advice, our partners provide tailored support to healthcare facilities.
training & mentoring
Local assessors are our direct connection to facilities, and they ensure that a facility is assessed according to SafeCare’s standards. We extensively train local assessors and provide mentoring and updates to ensure they are fully equipped to operate in SafeCare’s environment of standards and tools.
‘SafeCare brings great value to any system, no matter how small. Their contributions may look simple, but go a long way to improve quality .’
