SafeCare brings great value to any system no matter how small in terms of health delivery. Their contributions may look simple but they go a long way to improve the quality of care that is given.’’
Kwaku Darkwa Sanford Health HospitalAssessment, Quality Improvement Plans, and Certificates
Following an on-site assessment by a qualified SafeCare assessor, a facility receives a customized report on its performance – and how it compares to its peers. It also receives a tailor-made quality improvement plan with actionable information on how to address quality gaps.
Together, these two documents outline the measurable activities each facility needs to undertake to progress. Issues are focused around specific clinical topics or service elements but also target business needs such as financial management and contracting, deficiencies in human capacities, required site upgrades and addresses equipment needs.
The fully digitized data collection process enables our assessors to use handheld devices during their site visits for data collection, ensuring quick turnaround time on reporting and improvement plans.
A SafeCare certificate of improvement, which includes the facility name and score, enables the facility to increase patient and partner trust by publicly recognizing its current status and showing its progress as it advances through the SafeCare improvement journey.
Support
To help facilities achieve their aspirations and deliver enhanced healthcare services even in challenging environments, SafeCare offers a robust package of support services. This stretches from quality improvement support through to loans and financial management from the Medical Credit Fund.
On-site support
To help a facility work through its quality improvement plan, one of our experienced SafeCare assessors will visit in person. We can also provide expert consultancy to train and advise facility staff on how best and most effectively achieve specific ambitions.
Remote support
As part of our efforts to make the most of digital technology and innovation, each facility can use our quality management platform to work interactively – and in real-time – on improving its healthcare quality. Through this platform, the facility can connect with healthcare professionals, communicate with assessors, benchmark against peers, monitor progress and access the online SafeCare library, which houses in-depth and supporting documents and tools designed to aid its progress through its quality improvement plan. All with the aim to inspire and provide real value for quality improvement.
Together, this support offers a facility the opportunity to integrate the principles of continuous quality improvement into its daily operations and practice.
Capacity building
SafeCare has developed a number of training modules to help strengthen healthcare systems, skills, enhance knowledge, build capacity and improve healthcare provision among local partners.
Local assessors receive detailed training, education and mentoring to ensure they are fully equipped to operate in SafeCare’s standards and assessment environment. They are kept current through continuous professional development initiatives including tutorials, train the trainers initiatives, workshops, publications and member feedback.
We also help in setting up governance structures for quality assurance and incentives, as well as training leaders and managers in data interpretation and evidence-based decision making.
By training the next generation of quality experts, we are providing the essential building blocks for sustainable and local quality improvement institutions.
